Use the extra room for condition
A NZ$4,000 search is still a condition-led search. These are enquiry budgets, not priced listings. Do not assume a particular year or model will be available. Service records, inspection findings and suitable tyres matter more than cosmetic extras.
Choose for your route
For town trips, compare smaller hatchbacks. For passengers and luggage, check usable space with everyone aboard. A larger vehicle can add fuel and tyre costs. Test visibility, comfort and parking before deciding.
Compare the same costs
Request the full cash price and identify separate transport or other costs. Ask when scheduled maintenance is due and whether it is included. Keep a running-cost reserve rather than automatically spending the entire NZ$4,000 on the car.
