Approach with a plan
Read lane arrows and signs early, slow down and give way to traffic approaching from your right. Follow the marked lane for your intended exit. Do not assume another driver will take the exit their position appears to suggest.
Signal your intention
For a left turn, indicate left on approach. When going straight, do not indicate on approach. For a right turn or more than halfway around, indicate right on approach. Indicate left before leaving, usually after passing the exit immediately before yours.
Exit without a last-second manoeuvre
Follow the markings and check for people crossing and cyclists. If you miss the exit, choose a safe legal alternative rather than cutting across traffic. Use NZTA’s diagrams to study unusual and multi-lane roundabouts before driving them.
