Buying a used hybrid: questions to ask

Check the variant, battery information and maintenance before deciding.

ARM Cars editorial guide · Reviewed 3 November 2026

Identify the exact variant

Ask for year, kilometres and documentation. Imported and local versions can differ. Get insurance information using the actual registration rather than only the model name.

Request battery evidence

Ask for an appropriate independent assessment, when it was performed and what its measurements cannot predict. A dashboard display or short test drive does not guarantee long-term battery condition. Resolve warnings before agreeing to buy.

Compare whole ownership costs

Include insurance, tyres, maintenance and possible repairs alongside fuel use. Tell the inspector about your intended journeys. Ask Raj what is available: a model guide does not confirm stock.

Official information and further reading

Requirements can change. Check the linked authority before completing paperwork or relying on a driving entitlement.

General information, not a vehicle inspection or confirmation of stock. Budget examples are planning figures. Current prices and availability must be confirmed.
